GCSE Results 2023
Huge congratulations to all of our young people who have completed their GCSEs today. The school is very proud of all of you. As you will have read or heard, this is the first cohort that is being judged at levels prior to the pandemic, rather than adjustments being made for them. I think we would still very much argue that this group of young people also faced significant disruption to their education in the last four years. I was just saying to a colleague this morning that this year group lost most of Year 8 and spent Year 9 in a bubble. Today is a celebration of our young people and their adherence to The Elmgreen Way and hard work and effort.
I am also clear that external examinations are all about the young people and the school’s achievements are secondary to that. However, we are pleased that this group of young people have managed to achieve Elmgreen’s best ever set of GCSE results, this also includes the teacher assessed grades from 2020 and 2021 and the adjusted grades of last year. We always feel like we have much to do to continue to improve the life chances for our students and I am always proud of them, but today I’m also proud of the teachers and families who have worked together to get us to this point. Onwards and upwards!
A good set of overall results of course means that we have some students to really celebrate. These are just some of our highest achieving students this year.
Rosie achieved 9999999888, Enzo achieved 9999888887, Frank achieved 9999888777, Samuel achieved 99998776, Ruby achieved 9998888766, Lily achieved 99988887766, Grace achieved 999877654, Jheyson achieved 99D*77655, Lois achieved 998888777, Reiya achieved 9988777776, Caleb achieved 9888888777, Kika achieved 9888887777, Tosin achieved 988888776, Flavia achieved 988777654, Annabel achieved 98888666, Daniel achieved 98777665, Aishah achieved 9888D776, Fraser R achieved 888877777, Raman achieved 8888766664, Beatrice achieved 888777766, Tom achieved 887776665, Louis achieved 8887766664, Kylah Rose achieved 88D*D776664, Freya achieved 8877776664, Fraser L achieved 8777766665.
There are of course a myriad of stories behind these grades, just as there are for all of the young people who have achieved today. As I always do, not quite in the Jeremy Clarkson mode of I got these rubbish grades and look where I am today etc etc, I will point out that I am always in awe of these students who have achieved these top grades as they are certainly better than my GCSEs from 1989. However, it is also the case, for all of our students, that whatever the grades, these are hopefully a stepping stone to something else, to something better. That is one of the key functions of education and schooling. Well done to all of our Year 11’s who are now (mostly at Elmgreen Sixth Form of course) continuing that journey.
