A Level Results 2023

A big congratulations to all of our young people, both here and at our partner schools at Dunraven and St Martins, who have received their A Level and BTEC results. For the vast majority of our students, these will be the first public exams they have taken since their Year 6 SATS in 2016! Results are keys to open doors and we wish our young people all the best in the next stage of that journey. A huge thank you to the families who have given that support as well. I am very aware that even though we are now back to pre-pandemic levels in our results, many families and students have struggled to make that adjustment  after the period of lockdown.

It is always the temptation as a school to focus on the national trends and figures. The Department for Education has confirmed that these results are very similar to the 2019 figures, and that is certainly the case for us, as we return to the pre pandemic levels of assessment.  For the students this is meaningless of course. They just want to know what their grades are and, more importantly, what it means for the next stage in their educational journey. Therefore, we are very pleased at the very high percentage of our young people who have secured their first choice of destination today.

I received an email this morning from a recruitment agency that started with the line ‘Great teachers will never know where their impact truly ends,’ but actually I’m not sure I agree with that. Teachers know what a complete privilege it is to do the job we do, that gift of learning and knowledge is just that, a gift. So thank you to the teachers who have worked so hard too.

There are always, of course, great individual tales to tell. Noah achieved A*A*A and is reading Biological Sciences at The University of Edinburgh. Iris achieved A*AA and will be reading Law at Cardiff. Emily achieved A*AAB and will be reading Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield. Rosie achieved A*AB and will be reading Psychology at Bristol. We had particularly strong results in Art this year and Malak and Karissa are both going to the prestigious Camberwell School of Art. Not only are they going together but they both achieved identical results of A*BB. Ava is going to Arts University Bournemouth to study Animation Production after achieving an ABB. Imogen was another student who attained an ABB and she will be reading Psychology at Manchester.

We have always believed that the vocational qualifications, the BTECS, are as valuable for our young people as A levels. Congratulations to Ben who achieved Distinction*, Distinction*, C and is studying Sport Science , Coaching and Physical Education at Loughborough, the number one university for this course. Cheryl also has an excellent mix of grades with an A*, B and a Distinction and is studying Tourism Management with Language at Greenwich.  Mila attained A,B and a Distinction and is taking a gap year. Jemeo achieved Distinction, Distinction, B and is studying Nursing at Kings.

Congratulations to all and see you next week for the GCSEs.
